Embark on an extraordinary 14-day journey through the heart of Sri Lanka, blending culture, adventure, and breathtaking landscapes. From the sacred city of Kandy to the misty tea hills of Nuwara Eliya, this itinerary explores some of the island’s most iconic highlights.
Day 1
Arrival in Sri Lanka & transfer to the hill capital of Kandy
You arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, where your driver warmly welcomes you. You will almost instantly feel the tropical warmth of this magical island as you make your way out of the airport. The first stop on your trip in the pearl of the Indian ocean is Kandy.

Day 2
Sacred temples & botanical gardens in Kandy
Go on a guided walk through the surrounding villages of Kandy and discover 3 majestic temples. Visit Embekke Temple, a 13th century Buddhist temple with Hindu influences and the most beautiful wood sculptures. Then visit Lankathilake Temple, a 14th century Buddhist temple famous for its frescoes, rock carvings and beautiful Buddha statues. Then visit the temple of Gadaladeniya. Picnic lunch included. Visit the Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya, which covers over 150 acres along Mahaweli River. Must-see: the royal palm trees path, cannonballs trees, the orchid collection, and the multicolored flowerbeds. Plan on approximately 2 hours for this excursion.

Day 3
Temple of the Tooth & journey to Nuwara Eliya
Visit to the Sri Dalada Maligawa Buddhist temple, home to the sacred relic of Buddha's Tooth. Located on the north shore of Kandy Lake, the temple is part of the royal palace and is richly decorated. There are many buildings and places to visit within the precincts. Every day, 3 ceremonies are held in honor of the tooth relic. Transfer to Nuwara Eliya.

Day 4
Green trek, mountain train & arrival in Ohiya
You begin your hike through tea-picking villages, tea plantations and vegetable gardens. Take the opportunity to chat with the people you meet and share some lovely moments. You arrive in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's highest town at 1868m. Settle into your accommodation and relax. Embark on an adventurous train ride to the heart of the Sri Lankan mountains, the rugged hillsides, tea plantations, mountain tunnels and high bridges. Pass some of the most beautiful landscapes of Asia. Your driver will pick you up at the arrival railway station. (Seating subject to availability)

Day 5
Pekoe Trail Stage 12: Udaweriya to Haputale
This stage begins in the remote Udaweriya Valley that looks over the south of Sri Lanka with some of the best views in the tea country. On a clear day you may just make out the ocean in the South of the island. Walk past a derelict tea factory and along tea trails home to resident goats and friendly villagers through a valley seemingly lost in time. You will come across abandoned villages that saddle the lowlands to your right and the Uva bowl to your left whilst you hike along tea trails used by local villagers to travel from Udaweriya down towards Haputale and Ella. Difficulty - Difficult Duration - 6 hours

Day 6
Pekoe Trail Stage 13: Haputale to Bandarawela
Discover one of the most beautiful stages of the Pekoe Trail, leading you from Haputale a major town in Sri Lanka’s tea country to the peaceful village of St. Catherine. You'll walk through a cool, misty forest before climbing scenic trails lined with lush tea plantations. Along the way, you’ll pass an organic tea estate and enjoy spectacular views over the Thotalagala – Dambatenne valley. As an option, you can take a short detour to Lipton’s Seat, the famous viewpoint where Sir Thomas Lipton used to admire his tea estates. An ideal stage for nature lovers, tea history enthusiasts, and seekers of breathtaking landscapes. Duration: 4 to 5 hours Level: Moderate Lunch : pic nique included

Day 7
Pekoe Trail adventure: Ella to Demodara & transfer to Mahiyanganaya
Stage 15 of Pekoe Trail This stage begins at a Buddhist temple in Makulella, a small village overlooking the valley of Ambagaswatte. The river flowing through this valley gives way to the Ravana Falls, one of the most popular waterfalls in the region. The first part of the hike is a delightful walk through a forested area, including a eucalyptus forest, and tea bushes with stunning views. You will walk through patches of jungle as you climb up towards the top of Ella Rock where you can feast your eyes on expansive vistas of the iconic Ella gap, little Adam’s Peak, and Ella town. Difficulty - Moderate Duration – 3 hours Stage 16 of Pekoe Trail One of the shortest and most popular stages of The Pekoe Trail. This stage begins in the popular hill-country town of Ella where travellers come to enjoy walks through tea plantations, nature, and generally to chill out. You will walk through the Ella Forest Reserve, passing the famous Nine Arches Bridge where you are sure to meet a few other hikers and visitors posing for photos. The trail also cuts across small local villages with stunning views of the Nine Arches Bridge from different vantage points. Ends in Demodara. 12 Difficulty – Easy Duration 3 hours Keep in mind that, trail markings may not always be clear. Consider downloading "The Pekoe Trail" app before you head out. Don’t forget to bring a good map, GPS, as well as water and snacks to make the most of your hike. Transfer to Mahiyanganaya by car.

Day 8
Waterfalls & Lake Mapakada relaxation
Go for a trek in the city of Hasalaka, 30 minutes from Mapakada Village. Start your trek in the rice fields, then follow the river to the waterfalls of Rathna, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip. Don’t forget your swimsuit! Stop on your way back for a tasty Sri Lankan meal.

Day 9
Sunset at Pidurangala Rock & arrival in Sigiriya
This morning, you board the hotel's boat for a special breakfast on the water. A magical moment in the heart of nature.
Transfer to Sigiriya.
For Sunset, climb the hill of Pidurangala, right next to the "Lion Rock", and appreciate its archaeological interest. A stroll in nature, which allows you to enjoy a magnificent view, especially of the Sigiriya Rock, and the nearby Minneriya Park. At the top you will come across the ruins of a monastery, statues of Buddha, caves and more. A beautiful walk that has the advantage of still being uncrowded. Note: You should be in good physical condition for this cultural site, as there are many steps to climb.

Day 10
Sigiriya Lion Rock fortress exploration
Visit the famous “Lion’s Rock”. Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is Sri Lanka’s most popular cultural site. It will take about 2.5 hours to discover the gardens and caves, and climb up the 200-meter-high rock. Half-way up the rock, your guide will show you the painted caves of famous frescoes, believed to be King Kasyapa’s concubines. Once you reach the top, you’ll see the ancient palace ruins and enjoy an amazing view of the surroundings. Note: You should be in good physical condition for this cultural site, as there are many steps to climb.

Day 11
Cultural triangle journey: Aukana, Dambulla & transfer to Kalpitiya
Visit the Dambulla Cave Rock Temple. This Buddhist temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on top of a rock, and consists out of five caves. All are filled with Buddha statues and have beautiful wall paintings. The view over the surrounding environment is breathtaking! Note: You should be in good physical condition for this cultural site, as there are many steps to climb. In Aukana, you can admire the highest ancient Buddha statue in Sri Lanka, the Aukana Buddha. This statue stands at a height of 11.36 meters and is carved from a block of rock. The statue is located near Kala Wewa reservoir, where you can take a nice walk along the edge of the tank. Transfer to Kalpitiya.

Day 12
Wilpattu safari adventure
Discover Wilpattu National Park like never before with a safari from Kalpitiya, combining boat transfer and jeep adventure. Start your day early this morning with a boat trip from Kalpitiya, where the beauty of the lagoons and coastal scenery prepare you for adventure. Arriving in Wilpattu, embark on a jeep safari through the unspoilt lands of the park, famous for its leopards, elephants and rare birds. Guided by an expert naturalist, you will explore the fauna and flora in their natural habitat, for a unique moment of escape. Return to your hotel in Kalpitiya by boat.

Day 13
Leisure day in Kalpitiya
Kalpitiya, located on the northwestern coast of Sri Lanka, is a particularly interesting destination to visit in August, despite it being part of the southwest monsoon season. During this time, the area experiences strong and consistent winds, making it one of the best periods of the year for kitesurfing, which is one of Kalpitiya’s signature activities. The weather typically alternates between cloudy spells and sunny breaks, while temperatures remain warm and pleasant, ideal for enjoying the long sandy beaches and boat trips across the lagoons. August is also a relatively quiet month in terms of tourism, allowing visitors to experience Kalpitiya in a more peaceful and untouched atmosphere, surrounded by its rich marine life and natural landscapes.

Departure from Sri Lanka
