Day 1
Arrival to Rwanda - Meet and Greet
Welcome to Rwanda! After landing at Kigali International Airport, pass through passport control and collect your luggage, which will be scanned. Note that plastic bags, drones, and radio equipment are prohibited. We recommend withdrawing Rwandan Francs from the airport ATM as many local businesses prefer it over US Dollars, and a small departure fee is required in local currency. In the arrivals hall, a representative will meet you with a sign displaying your name, assist with your luggage, and guide you to your rental vehicle. You’ll then be transferred to Heaven Boutique Hotel.
Day 2
Discover Kigali and reflect on the past
On this day you will do Kigali city tour by visiting different attractions in the city Including Nyamirambo, Kigali Genocide Memorial and Belgian memorial. Overnight at Heaven Boutique Hotel.
Day 3
Spend a day in a life of a local artisan
On this day you will visit Azizi Life that honors local artisans by connecting them with global customers. To the Azizi Life Experience you will immerses yourself in village life, from communal chores and shared meals to learning artisan crafts like weaving, You will also have a chance to visit the King's palace museum The day ends with reflection and fair trade shopping, supporting sustainable livelihoods. Overnight at Centre d'acceuil Mater Boni Consilii.
Day 4
Transfer to Nyungwe - Colobus monkey and Tea Tour
This morning, track the black-and-white colobus monkeys in Nyungwe Forest National Park. Recognizable by their black bodies and white whiskers, these monkeys are found in troops of nearly 400. Although wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed, you’ll likely see them within an hour of trekking. Enjoy playful interactions with these curious primates, a unique experience with Africa's largest primate group.
In the afternoon, visit Gisakura tea plantation to learn about tea picking and processing. Wander the lush estate, pick tea leaves, and experience traditional processing methods. Optionally, explore the trails by mountain bike. Return to Nyungwe Top View Hotel with your guide.
Day 5
Waterfall hike & Canopy walkway
Visit the newly discovered waterfall in Nyungwe National Park. As you start to hike higher into the forest, enjoy the gorgeous views northwest to Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Several species of primates are commonly found here, as well as many birds.
You may enjoy the sighting of the waterfall fr om two main vantage points depending upon how wet you want to get. The first is at the end of a short spur, which leads to a picnic bench overlooking the fall at 50 meters distance. Small trees partially obscure the view. The falls can be reached by descending to the wild river below and then clambering over wet rocks to a large boulder in the middle of the amphitheatre. From here, you’ll be close to the bottom of the falls, wh ere it thunders down.
Afternoon visit to canopy walkway which is accessible from the Uwinka Visitor Centre a Forest Ranger will lead your walk through the forest. With an eye for some of the 310 bird species, butterflies, orchids, centuries-old trees and 75 mammals including 13 primates that live here this walk is a spectacular journey in the largest surviving example of an Afro Montane ecosystem and one of the oldest continuously forested locations on Earth.
The walk includes a 200m long canopy walkway that takes you high above the forest floor providing a unique platform for observing the forest. Overnight at Nyungwe top view Hotel.
Day 6
Chimpanzee Tracking & Transfer to Lake Kivu
Spend an incredible hour observing a troop of wild chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest's Cyamudongo section. Depart early at 5 am and meet your local ranger at a small visitor center. Once the trackers find the chimpanzee family, consisting of about 40 individuals, you'll trek through paths and steep rainforest slopes, listening for the chimps swinging through trees or moving on the ground.
This experience is enhanced by the possibility of encountering other primate species such as Silver Monkey, L'Hoest Monkey, and more, as well as spotting bird species like the Blue Turaco. Afterward, transfer to Cormoran Lodge on Lake Kivu's shores, where you'll enjoy stunning views, comfortable wooden cottages, and a restaurant offering local fish, Rwandan dishes, and international cuisine with a French touch.
Day 7
Adventure kayaking trip on Lake Kivu & Coffe tour
Explore Lake Kivu on a tranquil kayaking journey along Africa’s Great Lake. With a skilled guide, paddle a modern sea kayak or sit-on-top, navigating inlets and bays while enjoying the stunning scenery. Meet local fishermen, visit fish farms, and optionally see the hot springs.
Take a trip to Munini (Napoleon Island) for a hike to the summit, where you'll view a lively bat colony and enjoy panoramic vistas of Lake Kivu, the DRC, and lush hills. Refresh yourself with a swim in the lake's warm waters.
In the afternoon, embark on a Karongi Coffee Tour to witness the coffee production process—from harvesting to roasting—supporting the local community. Return to Cormoran Lodge for the night.
Day 8
Transfer to Volcanoes - Afternoon Canoeing
Morning transfer to Volcanoes National park.
Afternoon Explore the countryside on a canoe. Set in the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes, discover this special way to journey though the countryside in our modern canoes! Soak up impressive views, spot abundant birds, look out for the otters and meet friendly communities. Led by an experienced Kingfisher Journey’s activity leader, this river is mostly very gentle and flat with one short, easy rapid and one section where the water goes quite fast.
The start is a 15 minute transfer fr om central Musanze (add about 15 minutes fr om Kinigi). Here your activity leader will give you a briefing on the riverside before you get on the water. The first section is a flat and easy opportunity to learn how to steer your canoe as you float gently downstream. After about 20-30 minutes you will pull over for a short additional briefing about the small rapid, wh ere helmets must be worn. Then as you continue deep into the countryside, you are surrounded by the sights and sounds of rural Rwanda. You’ll be given an additional briefing about the approximately 200m section wh ere
the water speeds up as it goes around a few corners. After about 2.5-3 hours on the water the end of the trip is just after a road bridge. It takes about 20 minutes to drive back to Musanze and a further 15 minutes to Kinigi. Overnight at Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge.
Day 9
Golden Monkey Trekking & Mountain Biking Excursion
Today, embark on a thrilling trek to track the endangered Golden Monkeys in Volcanoes National Park. Meet at the park headquarters at 07:00, then start your hike at 08:00 to spend an hour observing a troop of 40-100 playful golden monkeys. This rare species, listed as endangered, is supported by tourism funds that aid in their conservation and habitat preservation. If you're interested in birds, ask your guide to help spot species like the impressive Blue Turaco.
In the afternoon, enjoy mountain biking on quality bikes, helmets, and gloves provided. Explore the Rwandan countryside through various trails, including views of the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, and possibly see all five Rwandan volcanoes, depending on weather conditions. Routes can be adjusted based on fitness levels. Overnight at Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge.
Day 10
Gorilla trekking - Transfer back to Kigali
On arrival, everyone will be split into groups of up to 8 people – and maybe joined with other tourists – before being allocated a ranger. You will then drive a short distance to the start of the trail, from where you will trek in the forest for around 1-3 hours or so to meet the gorillas. When you find them, the hour you spend with these incredible primates is a true lifetime experience that you will never forget. To see – and walk amongst – a family of mountain gorillas is a wildlife encounter unlike any other on Earth. You’ll be so close to the individual gorillas. Boisterous adolescents will be misbehaving whilst playful children are constantly demanding the attention of their parents as aunts and uncles wander together in an extended family group under the watchful eye of the silverback. You may only be a visitor, but you will briefly be part of their family in a really remarkable way.
Once you have returned to the Head Quaters, head back to your hotel for a celebration lunch, followed by an afternoon at leisure to relax or visit the local community projects in the area.
Once you have returned to your lodge after your trek and freshened up, enjoy a celebration lunch before your afternoon activities or evening at leisure.
This morning, your driver will meet you at your hotel in Volcanoes National Park and transfer back to Kigali. END OF SERVICE
