Explore Rwanda on an 8-day journey: start with Kigali's highlights, enjoy a safari in Akagera National Park with game drives and boat rides, trek for golden monkeys and mountain gorillas at Volcanoes National Park, and optionally visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus. End with a transfer back to Kigali for your departure.
Day 1
Arrival
On arrival at Kigali International Airport your guide will pick you up. Overnight at Heaven Boutique Hotel
Day 2
Explore Kigali's Vibrant neighborhoods - Learn the History
Right after breakfasts, you will be picked up by your guide to kick off for Kigali city tour where you will visit different attractions in the city including Kigali Genocide memorial, Belgian memorial and Nyamirambo women center. Dinner and Overnight at Heaven Boutique Hotel.
Day 3
Transfer to Akagera NP - Game drives and Boat Ride on Lake Ihema
Set off early to find the best wildlife and explore the low-lying plains, savannah, woodlands, wetlands and some of the dozen lakes that comprise this special place. With common sightings of zebra, giraffe, buffalo, topi, and lots of impala, you'll also be keeping a lookout for the Big5. In the evening you will enjoy sunset Boating to maximize chances of spotting aquatic animals. Overnight at Ruzizi Tented Lodge.
Day 4
Game viewing in Akagera National Park - Night Game Drive
You will not only enjoy your full day Akagera wildlife tour but also a night drive takes you on a journey to discover the nocturnal wildlife that is hidden in the day. You'll likely to see birds and small primates in the trees however, if you're lucky you may also find some of Akagera's preditors as they are often more active at night. Day 5
Game viewing in Akagera National Park - Free Evening acclimatizing to the cold weather of Volcanoes National Park
Morning Game drive in Akagera National Park, Afternoon private transfer from Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park (East to North). Overnight at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.
Day 6
Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes & Mukungwa River Canoe or Twin Lakes Exploration
Today you will head out into the forest to track an endangered species of monkey known as the Golden Monkey. Spend 1 hour watching the monkey families play in the forest! Guided by an experienced Kingfisher Journey’s activity leader, you can enjoy a flat, gentle and relaxing walk along the shores of this stunning twin lakes or you will enjoy a canoe at Mukungwa river. Overnight at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.
Day 7
Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Community Experience
On arrival, everyone will be split into groups of up to 8 people – and maybe joined with other tourists. You will trek in the forest for around 1-3 hours or so to meet the gorillas. When you find them, the hour you spend with these incredible primates is a true lifetime experience that you will never forget. After lunch in the afternoon, It’s a wonderful way to interact with and connect with a group of friendly people to learn about their lives.
Day 8
Visit Ellen DeGeneres campus (Optional) - Transfer back to Kigali
Today you will be collected by your driver from your lodge and Visit Ellen DeGeneres Campus or transferred back to Kigali at your Hotel or International Airport for your flight home.
