Discover the Mystique of the Trans-Himalayan Mustang Region: The Last Forbidden Kingdom

Nestled in the remote corners of Nepal, the Trans-Himalayan Mustang Region, often called the “Last Forbidden Kingdom,” is a treasure trove of history, culture, and stunning landscapes. Closed to outsiders until October 1991, this region has preserved its unique traditions and environment through strict regulations and limited access.

The people of Mustang, known as Lobas, follow a deeply rooted heritage and once revered their King, Jigme Palbar Bista, as their leader. Though Nepal became a republic in 2007, the Lobas continue to honor Bista as a symbol of their cultural identity. Visitors may even have the unique opportunity to meet him, as he still grants audiences upon request.

To protect its fragile ecosystem and ancient traditions, entry to the Upper Mustang requires a special permit from Nepal’s Department of Immigration. The journey begins at Jomsom, following the Kaligandaki River upstream to Kagbeni, the gateway to this enchanting region. From there, trekkers make their way to Lo-Mangthang, the walled capital of Upper Mustang, where time seems to stand still.

Embark on this unforgettable trek to explore the Mustang Region’s unparalleled beauty, spiritual ambiance, and timeless allure.
