Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork Trek

Trek through the southern highlands of Iceland, from the geothermal area of Landmannalaugar to the lush green valley of Þórsmörk. Your experienced trekking guide will lead you through the diverse landscape of Iceland, between rhyolite mountains, past majestic canyons, and over black sand deserts. Along the trail, your guide will tell you stories, folklore, and facts about the landscape and the history of Iceland. Overnight in mountain huts on the trail.
Reykjavík - Landmannalaugar - Hrafntinnusker
You will meet your guide at the BSI bus terminal in central Reykjavík. From there you will take the public bus along the south coast of Iceland past the volcano Hekla. Arriving in Landmannalaugar at noon, the group will have lunch and then head on out to the trail. The first day on the trails takes you past yellow rhyolite mountains, small gorges, and steaming hot springs. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Hrafntinnusker, your mountain hut for the night.
Hrafntinnusker – Álftavatn
You will start the day with a good breakfast before heading out to the trails. From Hrafntinnusker you will descend in the gullies of Jökultungur, passing steaming hot springs and mud pools. From Jökultungur you will have a great view of the next hut Álftavatn. You will also get your first view of the glacier Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull that will follow us for the next days.
Álftavatn – Emstrur
After breakfast, we head out to the trails for day three. Today you will pass Stórasúla volcano and cross the black desert of Mælifelssandur. Before arriving at your hut for the night, Emstrur. In the Emstrur region, farmers used to graze their sheep in the summer
Emstrur – Þórsmörk
On the fourth day, you will continue up and down the gullies and small valleys of Emstrur only a couple of kilometers away from Mýrdalsjökull glacier. You will descend into Þórsmörk with its arctic birch forest and colorful flowers. As this is the end of the trail you will celebrate with a BBQ. Overnight in a hut in Þórsmörk.
Þórsmörk – Reykjavík
The morning will be spent exploring the trails of Þórsmörk, you might visit Sönghellir cave or hike the mountain Valahnúkur. In the afternoon you will take the bus back to Reykjavík.
