Nepal is the land of Buddha. Innumerable Stupas and Monasteries are the testament of Buddhism followed in this land. Among many Buddhist shrines - the birth place of Buddha in Lumbini, Swoyambhu and Bouddha in Kathmandu, Golden Temple in Patan, and Namabuddha in Kavre are the main Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal.

Beginning from Namabuddha, trace the line of Buddha and Buddhahood. The belief is that Buddha in his previous life was born as a Prince. While he was wandering in this particular part of jungle he saw a weak tigress that has just given birth to five Cubs. The tiger would surely die with the cubs without someone providing them food. The prince found it so heart rending that he had a great compassion at them. So, he cut off his own flesh to feed them. Thus, the prince gave up his life. As a result of this compassionate act, the prince was reborn as Siddhartha Gautam Buddah in Lumbini.

After attaining enlightenment, Buddha taught people the way to ward off human suffering. His great teaching can be marked in the ancient Buddhist shrine like in Swoyambhu Nath and Bouddha Nath.
